Safe Waters

Solo Show - Lewisham Arthouse, London
Curated by Jessica El Mal, supported by Arts Council England, Arab British Centre, Freelands Foundation
February 2025

Safe Waters entangles the history of Deptford Central Library, built in 1914 in London, with the ongoing political, social and ecological reality unfolding along the eastern Mediterranean coast: the Levant. The installation unfolds through salt and water, methodologies of map-making, found objects from the Grade-II listed Victorian-era building, and the potential agency of the poppy flower. Through material, sonic and archival links, the connections of the two geographies are highlighted across time.
